Calendar of 2001 WCRC Club Events

WCRC runs at 4:00PM every Thursday from the club's locker rooms at the Winner's Circle Sports Bar, 371 Elm Street (Rt. 110), Salisbury, MA 01952. Runners of all abilities are invited to participate. Club "social hours" occur each Thursday following the run. General club meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 PM.

This calendar contains listings of events sponsored, organized or assisted by the Winner's Circle Running Club. Most of these events are open to the public. Club events intended for WCRC members only are specifically indicated as such. If you would like to participate in these, join the club! The calendar also contains listings for races/events not related to WCRC but which are (or should be) of particular interest to WCRC club members. Finally, the calendar contains listings of races/events which have found favor with the keeper of the calendar. January - '01

1 - The 20th Annual Bud Light Hangover Classic 10K and 5K Road Races will be run at 11:00 AM on January 1, 2001 at the Winner's Circle Sports Bar, Route 110 (near Rte. 95), Salisbury, MA. Cash and merchandise awards, long sleeve tee-shirts, classic mugs, raffles and more. Participate in "A New Years Day Tradition". Organized by WCRC. 11 - The January WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
28 - The 8th Annual Newburyport Rotary Frigid Fiver 5 mile road race will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2001. 12PM start at the Bresnahan School, 333 High St., Newburyport, MA. Long sleeve T-shirts. Inside (guaranteed to be warm) pre-race registration and post-race food and awards. Assisted by WCRC. For more information contact Bob Manning at (978) 462-1073.

February - '01

1 - On-line applications to the Mt. Washington Road Race will be accepted starting February 1st!!! It appears there will be a mail-in registration process but with a $5 penalty. The race is sure to reach the maximum of 1000 runners. In past years selection was on a lottery basis, but this year who knows??? Check the race web site before February 1 to find out how this year's registration is really going to work. Note that all competitors must complete the mountain in under three hours, so this may exclude some interested runners (Manning???).
3 - The WCRC annual meeting, election of the year 2001 WCRC officers (maybe the new WCRC board will remember to order porta-potties for the 2002 Hangover Classic!!!), and winter pizza party. 6:00PM upstairs at the Circle.
8 - The February WCRC club meeting will not be held, since the annual meeting is only 5 days earlier. The usual Thursday run and social session will still take place.

March - '01

1 - For the 2001 Mt. Washington Road Race everyone MUST register on-line. On-line applications to the lottery can be submitted between March 1 and March 15 by clicking on the "Enter The Lottery" button that will appear at the race web site. Note that all competitors must complete the mountain in under three hours, so this may exclude some interested runners (Manning???).
8 - The March WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
18 - The Andover Striders in association with the Winner's Circle Running Club will be presenting the Annual Run to the Beach 30K on Sunday, March 18, 2001 at 10:00AM. Point-to-point course starts at the North Andover VFW and finishes at the Winners' Circle Sports Bar in Salisbury. Miles accurately marked, water and/or beer at 5,10, and 15 miles. No timing, no awards, no entry fee, no numbers, no TAC, no yogurt, and no race directors to bitch to! For more info please contact Dave LaBrode at 978-373-3408 or icky@mva.net.

April - '01

2 - The 19th annual spring classic April Fool's Four-Mile Road Race will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2000. 11AM start at the Winner's Circle Sports Bar, Rte. 110, Salisbury, MA. Walkers welcome. Cash and merchandise awards, team awards, raffles. Portion of the proceeds to benefit the Greater Newburyport Chapter of the American Red Cross. Organized by WCRC.
12 - The April WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
16 - WCRC is once again organizing a bus trip to the Boston Marathon. The bus will provide transportation from the Circle to Hopkinton and from Boston back to the Circle. Space is limited so don't miss the bus!

May - '01

10 - The May WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
16 - The 12th annual Run for the Roses 5K Women's Road Race and non-competitive walk will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2001. 6:30 PM start at the Winner's Circle Sports Bar, Route 110, Salisbury, MA. This is the first race in the 2001 "Twilight Tetrad" women's series. Custom T-shirts available to all preregistered entrants, a rose to all finishers. Overall, age group and team awards. All proceeds to benefit the Women's Crisis Center (Newburyport, MA) and A Safe Place Inc. (Portsmouth, NH). Organized by WCRC.
27 - Trav's Trail Run 3.1 Mile X-Country Run will be held on Sunday May 27, 2001 @ 12:00 Noon in MAUDSLAY STATE PARK, NEWBURYPORT, MA. This new event is to benefit the Travis Eliot Landreth Memorial Scholarship Fund. The beautiful and popular cross-country course in Maudslay State Park will be dedicated as the Travis Landreth Trail in a dedication ceremony @ 11:15 AM. Organized by WCRC.

June - '01

14 - The June WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
16 - The Mt. Washington Road Race. This is a lottery controlled event, so if you didn't get in through the lottery in February, you can't run. However, volunteers are needed to help at the WCRC managed water stop or to ferry WCRC vehicles to the top before the race. If you are interested in helping out, and joining us for the gala post-race cookout and party, contact any of the WCRC board members or send email to wcrc@xenia.unh.edu.

July - '01

12 - The July WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.

August - '01

5 - The 11th annual Newburyport Yankee Homecoming High Street Mile one mile road race will be run on Sunday, August 5, 2001. "The way racing used to be." 10AM start at Atkinson Common in Newburyport, MA. Fast/flat USATF certified straight line course. Separate start times based on age division and sex. 28 - The Trick or Treat Trot 5K Road Race will be run on Sunday, October 28, 2001. 12 PM start at the Nock Middle School, Newburyport, MA. To Benefit NHS Class of 2004. Organized by Newburyport High School Class of 2004. Assisted by WCRC. For more information contact Sue Galvin at (978) 465-9924.

November - '01

8 - The November WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
10 - The 13th annual Bruce Ellis Memorial 5K Road Race will be run on Saturday, November 10, 2001 in Exeter, New Hampshire. Unique certified 5K course over roads and maintained trails. 22 - The 12th Annual Turkey Trot 3.1 Mile X-Country Run/Walk will be held on Thursday, November 22, 2001 at 8:20 AM in Maudslay State Park, Newburyport, MA. December - '01

9 - The Santa's Toy Trot 2 Mile, 4 Mile and 6 Mile Road Races Plus Non-Competitive Walk and 1/2 Mile SANTA'S ELVES FUN RUN for Kids will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2001. 1:00 PM start in Merrimac, MA. Register with a toy!!! Proceeds to Benefit TOYS FOR TOTS and HOLIDAY HELPERS. Age group awards plus raffles. For more information call Sharon Yu at (978) 521-9389. Organized by WCRC.
13 - The December WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
22 - The annual WCRC Christmas Party (dinner, dance, and Yankee swap) will be held at the Hungry Traveler Restaurant in Salisbury, MA. Contact Sue Passler for reservations.
