January - '97
- 1 - The 16th Annual Bud Light Hangover Classic 10K and 5K Road
Races. "A New Year's Day Tradition." Flat, Fast and Accurate. New 10K
loop course. 11:00 AM at the Winner's Circle Sports Bar, Rt. 110, Salisbury, MA. Long
sleeve shirts, classic beer mugs, 5 year age divisions and more. Sponsored by WCRC. For

- 2 - The January WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle. Nominations for 1997
WCRC officers.
- 19 - The 4th Annual Newburyport Rotary Frigid Fiver 5
mile road race. 1:00 PM at the Bresnahan School, 333 High St., Newburyport, MA. Long
sleeve t-shirts to first 150 entrants. Age division awards. Assisted by WCRC. For more

February - '97
- 1 - The WCRC annual meeting, election of 1997 WCRC officers, and winter party.
6:30PM upstairs at the Circle.
- 6 - The February WCRC club meeting will not be held since the annual meeting is
only 5 days earlier. The usual Thursday run and social will still occur of course.
- 9 - The Rescheduled 1996 Mill Cities
Club Relay. Relay team race open to invited "mill cities" clubs only
(including WCRC, the '94 and '95 club trophy winner). For more information contact Mike

March - '97
- 1 - Applications to the Mt. Washington Road Race will be sent out on March
1st. You must send a request for an application, including a S.A.S.E., to Mt
Washington Road Race, P.O. Box 990, Newport, NH, 03773. Send your request for an
application in early February!
- 6 - The March WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
- 23 - The annual Run To The Sea 30K, North Andover to the Winner's Circle.

- 29 - The 16th annual spring classic April Fool's Four-Mile
Road Race will be held on Saturday, March 29, 1997. 11AM start at the Winner's
Circle Sports Bar, Rte. 110, Salisbury, MA. Walkers welcome. Cash and merchandise awards,
team awards, raffles. Portion of the proceeds to benefit the Jimmy Fund. Sponsored by
WCRC.
April - '97
- 6 - Randall's Brunch Run (and demolition derby???) for WCRC members.
8:30AM, 9 Middle Rd., Merrimac, MA.
- 10 - Noted running author Tom Derderian will be the guest speaker at the April
WCRC club meeting. The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 10 at 6:30PM in the
upstairs meeting room. Starting with this meeting, all WCRC general club meetings will be
held on the second Thursday of each month (rather than the first Thursday), in the
upstairs meeting room at "the Circle".
- 13 - Red's Shoe Barn 5 Mile Road Race. Red's, which takes the gun at 1
p.m. in Dover, NH, is the oldest race in the all-new Dover Road Racing
Circuit. Proceeds from the race benefit the Red Murray Youth Athletic Fund. For more

- 20 - Fred's Marathon and
Half-Marathon, the new no-hassle, low-cost alternative Patriot's Day weekend

- 21 - Too expensive or not, the 101st Boston Marathon will
be run on Patriot's Day as usual. Noon start at Hopkington, MA. For more information

- 26 - Spring
Fling 5K Run/Walk. 10:30 AM start on Saturday, April 26 at the Oyster River High
School in Durham, NH. Children's fun run at noon. Age group and team awards. For more

May - '97
- 8 - The May WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
- 14 - The 8th annual Run For The Roses 5K Women's Road Race
will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 1997. 6:30PM start at the Winner's Circle Sports Bar,

- 22 - WCRC Club Biathlon (for WCRC members). Bike/run biathlon with 5:30PM

- 31 - The Riverwoods Masters Plus 5K (age 40+ runners only). 9:00AM start

June - '97
- 6 - The 5th Annual Parker River National Wildlife Refuge
Race Against Extinction 10K Road Race & 4 Mile Walk will be run at 6:25 PM on
Friday, June 6, 1997 at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, Plum Island, Newbury,
MA. Come enjoy a spring evening sunset run on the most scenic course in New England!!! A
flat, fast, wheel measured, breathtaking course. Assisted by WCRC. For more information

- 14 - Market Square Day 10K,
June 14, Portsmouth, NH.(in WCRC Grand Prix Series).

- 21 - The 37th
Annual Mount Washington Road Race will be held on Saturday, June 21. 10 AM start
at the Mt. Washington Auto Road entrance near Pinkham Notch (Gorham, NH). Entry is by
lottery ONLY. You must send a request for an application, including a S.A.S.E.,
to Mt Washington Road Race, P.O. Box 990, Newport, NH, 03773. Send your request for an
application in early February. Applications will be sent out March 1. This is a
one-of-a-kind race with a great post-race party at the base of the mountain. WCRC always sends a large contingent to "The
Mountain", including the record holding men's and women's
masters teams.
- 26 - Amesbury 5 Mile, June 26, 6:30, The Mill Restaurant, assisted by WCRC, call

- 28 - WCRC Mystery Race (for WCRC Members). Meet at Winners Circle, 8:00 AM,
car-pool to unknown race. Not over 10 Miles. Entry Fee $10 in advance. Send name,
address, age, T-shirt size, plus fee to any board member by June 13th, or mail to Ken

July - '97

- 3 - The 7th annual Newburyport Yankee Homecoming High Street
Mile one mile road race will be run on Sunday, August 3, 1997. "The way
racing used to be." 10AM start at Atkinson Common in Newburyport, MA. Fast/flat USATF
certified straight line course. Separate start times based on age division and sex. For

- 6 - Heatwave 5K, August 6, Lawrence, (Tetrad Series Race).
- 14 - The August WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
- 16 - Relay For Life, Aug. 16-17, Portsmouth High School, 3:00 PM Friday until
3:00 PM Sat, 24 Hour relay, runners do 1 hour shifts. Cancer Fund Raiser, Pledge sheets

- 11 - The September WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
- 16 - Annual WCRC members versus GDA students cross-country dual meet at Governor
Dummer Academy, Byfield, MA. 4:45 PM start on GDA 5K cross-country course. FREE (WCRC

- 20 - 9th Annual Fred Brown Lake Winnipesaukee Relay. Weirs Beach, NH.
WCRC is sure to field teams, including the twice victorious mixed-masters team. For more

- 21 - The 15th Annual Yankee Runner Short Race. 5K cross-country race
at Governor Dummer Academy, Byfield MA. First race of USATF-NE Cross-Country Grand Prix

- 9 - The October WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
- 12 - The 11th Annual Bobby Bell 5 Mile Road Race, 11AM, Lasting Room,

and age category only, no men/womens divisions.
November - '97
- 2 - 2nd Trick or Treat Trot 5K Road Race. 1 PM start at Newburyport
High School, Newburyport, MA. Assisted by WCRC. For more information contact Joe Manning

- 8 - The 9th annual Bruce Ellis Memorial 5K Road Race
will be run on Saturday, November 8, 1997 in Exeter, New Hampshire. New 5K course over
roads and maintained trails. All proceeds to benefit the Bruce Ellis Memorial Scholarship

- 13 - The November WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
- 22 - WCRC Predict-Your-Time Turkey Trot. WCRC members only. 4 PM start at the

- 22 - WCRC 20th Anniversary Celebration. The
WCRC 20th anniversary celebration/reunion will be held on Saturday evening, November 22.
Events will start at 4PM with the annual Predict-Your-Time Turkey Trot. Predict your time
in a 5K run and win a turkey! (no you won't have to share it at the dinner afterwards).
The Turkey Trot will be followed by cocktails at 6PM and dinner at 7PM, all at the
Winner's Circle Sports Bar in Salisbury, MA. All WCRC members are encouraged to attend
(WCRC offers only lifetime memberships, so we have no previous members, other than Dick
LeBlanc). This event is free to members and their guests, but were counting
on some salads, desserts, and the like to be brought by the members. Help out if you can!
Also we need pictures, old uniforms, newsletters, and any other memorabilia from the Club.
- 27 - The 8th Annual Turkey Trot 3.1 Mile X-Country
Run/Walk will be held on November 27, 1997 at 8:20 AM in Maudslay State Park,
Newburyport, MA. Enjoy Hassle-free, Traffic-Free Running in one of Massachusettss
most picturesque State Parks! The Turkey Trot is the second race of the "The
Merrimack Valley Cross Country Series". Organized by WCRC. For more information

December - '97
- 7 - The Mill Cities Relay.
Relay team race open to invited "mill cities" clubs only (including WCRC, the
'94 and '95 club trophy winner). For more information contact Mike McCormick at
508-462-0117. All WCRC club members are invited/encouraged to participate. There is no
limit to the number of WCRC relay teams.
- 11 - The December WCRC club meeting, 6:30PM at the Circle.
- 14 - The Santa's Toy Trot 2 Mile, 4 Mile and 6 Mile
Road Races Plus Non-Competitive Walk and 1/2 Mile SANTA'S ELVES FUN RUN for
Kids will be held on Sunday, December 14, 1997. 1:00 PM start in Merrimac, MA. 100% of Proceeds
to Benefit TOYS FOR TOTS. 1st 100 pre-registered in road race or walk receive long sleeve
T-shirts. Prizes to top 2 male and female finishers in each distance and age division
(Open, Masters 40-49, Seniors 50+, Veterans 60+) plus raffles.Organized by WCRC. For more

- 20 - The Annual WCRC Christmas party will be held on Saturday evening,
December 20th, at the Hungry Traveler restaurant in Salisbury, MA. $12.50/person,
