The Kenyans have their star, the Polar (fleece) Cola CMS elites have theirs (including one WCRC export) and others came from Canada & Colorado, not to mention Beverly, Mass, all in search of fame & fortune in the hills of New Hampshire. But the good guys & gals of the ever-social WCRC used good old-fashioned beer & T-shirts to reward its band of true friends for the TOP TEAM SHOWING at the Pinkham - to - Peak extravaganza we call "the Hill."
It was a victory for grass roots runners and a competition for the pure joy of it, as WCRC runners failed to win even a single individual award, yet all 4 teams placed. Don Hennigar (38th) and Renee Reidel (13th) were the top guns, while Bob Randall (3rd place 55-59) was closest to an age-group award.

Circle runners, fast & slow alike, as always raced hard. Many were rewarded for their efforts with PR times, and others helped teams capture "the hardware." Still others pushed their teammates to good performances. The Women's Open team, placed third. Reidel, traveling back east from the great state of Washington, was joined in the scoring by masters Vicki Miller and Sue Passler . Laurie Gaudreau and Kathy Long were close behind. The WCRC Men placed fourth, well behind the CMS/U.S. Mountain Running outfit but within striking distance of two other teams. Hennigar, Gary Passler, Tom Cross, Mike McCormick and Bob Manning were the scorers, with Tom Miller & Don Dwight nipping at Manning's heals.

With Masters athletes figuring prominently in the Open scoring, it follows that the Master's teams themselves might have done well, since this is one race where a runner can score in both divisions. The Circle Teams did not disappoint, with record-setting victories in both male & female 40+ divisions. Tom Miller & Ed Liebfried joined Hennigar, Gary Passler & Manning in the Men's win, while Paula Holm followed Vicki Miller & Sue Passler to help the Ladies of the Club win.
MountainMeister Tom Manning bestowed the "Performance of the Day" award, fittingly, on a non-scorer, Neil Gleason, whose time eclipsed his former PR by over 12 minutes. A related article by the Meister can be found elsewhere in this issue.
Many, Many thanks to all who helped make this insanity happen. Tom, Brad, Vicki, the volunteers and most of all Barb who seemed to be all over the place helping out. Finally, in the tradition of the Hockomock Swamp Rat, the Official Race Song: "Changes in Attitudes, Changes in Latitudes" (Not to mention Altitudes) If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane......
