Cross-Country Update |
By Mike McCormick
The brave WCRC young men valiantly got there buts kicked week after week. The series of 5 races brought out the best men from the local clubs, with our friends from Greater Lowell winning the series with a herd of post-collegiate stallions.
The Circle contingent was led by new member Philip Clarke who finished second at Lynn Woods and ran a 25:30 at Franklin Park. The other standout for the Circle was Chris Kealey, placing high at many of the meets. Other members who enjoyed their weekly beating were Gary Passler, Mark Behan, Mike McCormick, Mike Coraluzzo. Others who ran some races were Don Hennigar, Matt St.Germaine, and Jim Morisseau. Jim gets the special award for after finishing the Masters 8k ,he jumped in the open 10k at the New England Champs to allow the Circle to have the necessary 5 runners for a team.
Other highlights of the season besides picking up 2 fine young runners in Clarke and Coraluzzo, include running in the most intense rain storm at the Stoneham 5k( we are talking knee high puddles), not getting lost going Franklin Park, watching the boy from Montana (Clarke ) get out of paying for a USATF card, not finishing last or getting lapped at any of these races (there are some VERY fast people out there) and enjoying a pint at the regular post-Franklin Park watering hole - Doyle's, in beautiful Jamaica Plain.
